Waterproof jackets for women offer essential protection against the elements while also adding a stylish touch to any outdoor outfit. These jackets are designed to keep you dry and comfortable in rainy or wet conditions, making them indispensable for outdoor adventures or daily commutes.
Constructed from high-quality waterproof materials such as Gore-Tex or similar breathable fabrics, these jackets provide excellent water resistance without sacrificing breathability. This means you stay dry from both rain and sweat, ensuring maximum comfort during activities.
Many waterproof jackets for women come with additional features like adjustable hoods, cuffs, and hems to customize the fit and seal out moisture effectively. Some jackets also feature pit zips or ventilation panels to enhance airflow during intense activities, preventing overheating. From sleek and minimalist designs to bold and vibrant colors, there’s a waterproof jacket to suit every style preference.
Women’s Waterproof Jacket
Whether you’re hiking in the mountains, strolling through the city, or simply running errands on a rainy day, a reliable waterproof jacket is a wardrobe staple that offers both fashion and function. Investing in a high-quality waterproof jacket ensures you stay dry and comfortable no matter the weather, allowing you to embrace the great outdoors with confidence and style.
1. Rab Arc Eco jackets
Rab’s hi-tech fabrics are among the finest on the market and their Arc Eco fabric stands out by featuring three layers of Pertex Shield material with industry standard ratings of 20,000 Hydrostatic Head (HH) and 15,000 Moisture Vapour Transfer Rate (MVTR), according to Richard in this introduction video. As Richard emphasizes in the introduction video, these tests measure waterproofing and breathability independently – qualities which often compete for our attention; finding balance may therefore be key; Arc Eco has done just this with its design!
As part of my rigorous testing walks and bike-rides, the Rab was outstanding on both occasions. Even during attempts at producing sweat, my body stayed dry while wind was kept at bay thanks to its adjustable hood (back & front adjustable!) with vents under arms; its pockets large enough for maps could easily unzip even when carrying my backpack; plus its use of PFC-free recycled materials made for sustainability – they really stood up!
The Arc Eco’s fleece-lined chin guard and back of hood provide extra comfort, reducing that uncomfortable scratchy sensation you often get with cheaper waterproofs. Furthermore, its sleeves have been tailored so they slope inward towards wrists so wind won’t easily penetrate them while still offering ample shoulder room movement! Great Rab!
2. Jack Wolfskin Highest Peak Jacket
Reconsider your waterproof jacket purchases: they don’t have to be rigid and uncomfortable! Discover just how soft, flexible and waterproof the Jack Wolfskin Highest Peak Jacket is while remaining completely watertight!
My favorite aspect of this jacket is how easily it packs down into any one of its hip pockets for transport, making it one of my top recommendations for easy carrying. Additionally, it meets Bluesign-approved sustainability standards which aim to limit exposure of harmful substances for both wearers and the environment. Made up of 90% recycled or Bluesign approved fabric material – complete with repair service should anything happen which needs fixing!
My Jack Wolfskin jacket proved its waterproof credentials over two weeks of dog walks during December with heavy rainfall, storm after storm bringing torrential downpours with each walk. To my relief, the jacket held strong despite this test; its large pockets provided extra warmth even if they sat slightly further back than desired.
Jack Wolfskin offers an outstanding weatherproof travel jacket despite its three-layer shell construction; yet is still lightweight and surprisingly breathable. Pit zips provide easy ventilation during summer hiking trips while soft hood peak designs aid packability while offering less effective rain protection than stiff peak designs. Overall this Jack Wolfskin model makes an outstanding weatherproof travel essential.
3. Arc’teryx Beta Lightweight Jacket
Arc’teryx prices might initially appear intimidating. At first glance, their offerings might appear similar to Jack Wolfskin; yet closer examination reveals subtle distinctions: lightweight 40 denier GORE-TEX fabric construction for maximum mobility; articulated construction designed for enhanced search & rescue situations; search and rescue reflector for increased safety during search & rescue events; comfort chin guard made of microsuede for extra support… and so forth.
Does an occasional dog walker require an Arcteryx jacket? No; an affordable waterproof will suffice just as effectively. However, hikers in search of maximum cost per wear value would find few better solutions available to them than these Arcteryx pieces.
Arc’teryx Beta Lightweight Jacket is their multipurpose waterproof layer designed for breathability over warmth; mountain climbing over commutes; ultralight garment weighing in at only 355g so when rain stops falling you can pack away easily without incurring additional fees (but this might mean venturing abroad!).
My friends who already use Arc-teryx swear by its premium features like pit zippers, full coverage hood that actually covers their face, adjustable cuffs/hem/hood/and Bluesign sustainability credentials; along with long lasting performance characteristics attested to by many Arc-teryx converts like me! Hopefully mine should keep going strong for quite some time yet!
4. The North Face Dryzzle Futurelight
The Dryzzle has long been an outstanding way of staying dry during outdoor adventures and this year’s version utilizes Futurelight fabric with nano spinning technology to increase air permeability while remaining waterproof – meaning more airflow permeability than last year.
Initial impressions were positive: its stylish yet lightweight design allowed no sweat buildup when engaging in rigorous physical activities such as running. Furthermore, I felt protected against gusty gusts with both its hood up and storm flap around my neck fully in place!
As cycling often leaves your backside exposed, I would not advise this piece from North Face for cycling; however, its zipped chest pocket would provide ample storage space for mobile phones or similar items. Overall however, this piece makes a wonderful hiking jacket!
5. Montane Spirit Waterproof Jacket
Montane may be an established British brand, yet these Montane Spirit waterproof jackets from Scandinavia take inspiration for their design – with stylish pastel and darker muted colors available – making this versatile yet practical piece suitable for daily life. Though looks are important, performance takes precedence – and this Montane jacket certainly delivered that with regards to performance during what seemed like 100 days of rainy British winter! I appreciated its adjustable hood, cinchable hem and sleeves so that any gaps between my skin and them were bridged – or to accommodate thicker gloves if need be.
My only real beef with most waterproof jackets is their insufficient coverage of raindrops falling directly on my face, even when their peak structure makes an attractive statement. While their peak has an attractive shape and structure, its coverage falls a bit short in providing sufficient rain protection.
As opposed to similar jackets, this one omits pit-zips. Although still breathable, hikers will miss their sense of relief that pit-zips provide at the end of a sweaty hike.
But I am being overly critical; in truth it is an outstanding waterproof jacket which packs down small enough for my bag, looks the part, doesn’t irritate my skin when zipping right up, and can even be worn comfortably with an inner T-shirt for everyday wear.
6. Lululemon Cross Chill Jacket
If running is your passion, check out The Telegraph’s list of running shoes for women and fitness trackers; but this jacket can easily be used for cycling, walking and other forms of physical activity as well. I tried pastel green for its vibrant color that instantly brightened up England’s gray skies! Plus it boasted three pockets (chest pocket, back pocket and two side pockets, one equipped with an internal compartment to store phones!) plus four chest pockets that now no longer seem available, one back pocket (now no longer in stock!) one back pocket (plus two side pockets with inner sections dedicated for storage such as gloves)- all great for outdoor sports!
7. CitizenActiveGear Waterproof Jackets
As with other bike helmets, this coat’s hood was too small to accommodate my cycling helmet – yet peripheral vision wasn’t impaired in any way! Furthermore, its reflective logo made you more visible after dark; and its stretchy material sleeves featured thumb holes – not ideal for layering deep winter weather but great in wet and windy conditions!
